Woman secretly eating chocolate biscuits behind a door, symbolising stress eating, emotional eating, and sugar cravings linked to nervous system overwhelm.

There was a point where I genuinely thought I had a bit of a… problem.

Not a dramatic one. Nothing worth announcing out loud.
Just a quiet, end-of-the-day habit that started to feel a little too familiar.

The kettle would go on.
The kitchen would go quiet.
And without really thinking about it, my hand would reach for the hobnobs.

One turned into two.
Two into… well, you know how it goes.

And the strange part was, I wasn’t even hungry.

I’d pause halfway through and think,
“Why am I doing this?”

But I’d still reach for another.

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone. I’ve created a free nervous system healing guide to help you feel safer and more grounded.

🌿 It didn’t make sense… until it did

For a long time, I thought it was just a lack of discipline.

That I needed to be “better.”
More controlled.
Less… whatever this was.

But healing has a way of quietly changing how you see things.

Because one evening, I noticed something different.

It had been a long day.
Not just physically, emotionally.

The kind of day where you’ve held everything together, kept going, stayed strong…
but underneath, your system is just tired.

And there I was again.
Kettle on. Hobnobs out.

Only this time, I didn’t judge it.

I just sat with it.

And the thought came in, gently:

“This isn’t about the biscuits.”

⸝

🌿 What my body was really asking for

When you’ve been in survival mode for a long time, your body doesn’t just switch off when the day ends.

It doesn’t suddenly feel safe because the house is quiet.

There’s still that hum underneath it all.
That low-level tension.
That quiet exhaustion that no one else sees.

And your body looks for relief.

Not in big, obvious ways.

But in small, accessible comforts:
• something warm
• something sweet
• something predictable

Something that says:

“Here… this will help, just for a moment.”

And that’s what the hobnobs were.

Not a lack of willpower.
Not a bad habit.

Just my nervous system… trying to soften.

⸝

🌿 The shift wasn’t what I expected

I didn’t suddenly cut them out.

I didn’t replace them with something “healthier.”

I didn’t force myself to stop.

Because that never works when your body is asking for something deeper.

Instead, I started asking a different question:

“What do I actually need right now?”

Sometimes, the answer was still:
👉 a cup of tea and a couple of hobnobs

But other times, it was:
• sitting in silence for a few minutes
• wrapping up in a blanket
• putting something gentle on in the background
• letting myself come down slowly instead of pushing through

And without forcing it…

The cravings softened.

⸝

🌿 It was never about control

I think so many of us carry this quiet frustration with ourselves.

We think:
• “Why can’t I just stop?”
• “What’s wrong with me?”

But the truth is…

Your body isn’t working against you.

It’s working for you.

Even in the ways that don’t make sense at first.

Even in the habits you quietly judge.

⸝

🌿 So if this feels familiar…

If you’ve ever found yourself reaching for something,
not out of hunger, but something else you can’t quite name…

You’re not lacking discipline.

You’re not failing.

You might just be:

tired, overwhelmed, and trying to soothe yourself in the only way your body knows how right now

⸝

🌿 A gentle reminder

You don’t need to strip everything back and “fix” yourself overnight.

Sometimes the shift begins with something much softer:

understanding, instead of judging

And if that understanding happens to come
with a cup of tea and a hobnob (or two!) in hand…

You’re still moving forward 🌿

If you’ve been feeling constantly on edge or stuck in survival mode, I’ve put together a gentle free guide to help your nervous system slow down and feel safe again.
